Maria Carmen Weiner

Maria Carmen Weiner, age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in San Antonio. Carmen was born on June 22, 1929, in Benavides, Texas, to parents, Domingo and Josefa Serrano Gonzalez and moved to San Antonio as a young adult working at one point for the H. B. Zachary Company. Eventually marrying, she raised two sons. Carmen went on to pursue her studies and interest in art, acquiring a degree from Texas A&I University. She enjoyed art and experimented with painting, sculpture, and weaving. She would later go on to teach art for the Miami Public School System while briefly living in Florida. After returning to Texas, she went back to school and earned a Masters degree in Counseling; becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She worked as a guidance counselor at Miller High School in the Corpus Christi Independent School System, where she was very proud of how much scholarship money the school was able to raise for kids to go onto college. She enjoyed traveling to different universities to learn more about their programs with respect to Texas students. While working at Miller High School, she served as president of the Gulf Coast Counseling Association. Upon retirement, she moved back to San Antonio, where she enjoyed traveling, volunteered as a docent at the San Antonio Museum of Art and served as president of the Senior Citizens Group at the Jewish Community Center. Carmen was intensely curious, she loved conversation, traveling, movies, art, music, crossword puzzles, was fiercely independent, and had a great sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Weiner; and her brother, Roberto Gonzalez. Carmen is survived by her son, David J. Weiner of New York City; and her sister, Margot Rocha of San Antonio; as well as many nieces and nephews. GRAVESIDE SERVICE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2021 10:30 A.M.
