

She came to San Antonio in 1956 to visit her cousin Jack Fairman and while in San Antonio, she met the love of her life -- Zavell Buddy Smith. They married in 1957, and had one son, Allan F Smith.
As Buddy developed his renowned photography business, the Zavell Smith Photography Studio on Main Avenue, Marian was by his side every day dressing brides, taking care of the accounting, and raising their son, Allan.
Soon after her arrival in San Antonio, Marian became a life member of Hadassah, NCJW, ORT, and an active member of many other organizations.
Marian helped Buddy and later Allan with their involvement with the Golden Manor, JCC, JFSA, Chabad Lubavitch, Rodfei Sholom, Agudas Achim and Temple Beth-El.
Marian also enjoyed the fellowship of the Downtown Rotary Club of San Antonio with Zavell and Allan.
She was a caring daughter, sister, aunt and great-aunt, loyal wife, loving mother and faithful friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zavell "Buddy" Smith; her parents, Sarah and Philip Levitt; sisters, Estelle "Goldie" Uman, Doris Goldberg, and Adeline Applebaum; niece, Rhea Goldberg Grant; and great-nephew, Richard Applebaum. She is survived by her son, Allan F Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Clare and Sam Davis; sisters, Ann Mester, Dorothy Cohen, Lillian Berman, and Selma Levitt; sister-in-law, Joyce Smith Gruenberger Kuttler and husband, Irving Kuttler; cousin, Trudy Husik; cherished nieces, nephews and their children; devoted cousin, Sanford Grossman; loving friends, Nancy and Robert Heller; and many other dear friends.
