Marie Ellen Sims (Miller)

Marie Ellen Sims (Miller), age 72, passed away on September 25, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. Born on January 9, 1950, in Cairo, GA, to parents, Mildred Salter and Dellwood W. Miller. She grew up in Albany, GA and was a 1968 graduate of Dougherty High School. She attended Albany Junior College before earning her Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Georgia in 1972. She married Ronald C. Sims, her high school sweetheart, on July 23, 1972. Ron’s career as an Air Force F4 Fighter Weapons Systems Officer sent them on many adventures together. As a military wife, Marie traveled the country and over to Germany raising her children and building a strong foundation for her family no matter where they landed. Marie was active in the PTO, Officer’s Wives Club, and served as a Vacation Bible School Teacher. Once the family settled in San Antonio, Marie began her career as a special education teacher with the San Antonio ISD where she taught for 24 years and was named Special Education Teacher of the Year. While teaching she completed her Master’s Degree in Special Education at Our Lady of the Lake University. Marie dedicated herself to her students, including serving as an award-winning coach for the Special Olympics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Dellwood Miller and her sister Dorothy Louise. Marie is survived by her husband, Ronald C. Sims; and her children, Miles C. Sims (Lydia), Meghan E. Ruffo (Robert), and Nick A. Sims (Carla). Marie’s grandchildren are Connor Sims, Makena Sims, Camden Sims, Keegan Sims, Addison Sims, Adalai Domaruk, Chloe Sims, Abigail Ruffo and Jackson Ruffo. She is also survived by her sisters Susan Felts and Lynn Baker (David).

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
