Marilyn Thomas Evans, beloved wife, mother and grandmother went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on June 19, 2015 in San Antonio after a long battle with cancer. She was born April 21, 1950, the youngest of four children, to her parents, Paul and Vineta (Clark) Thomas in Lubbock, Texas. The family moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma when she was six years old and was the place she called home. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1968. Upon graduation she moved to Houston, Texas to work for Pan American Petroleum with her sister, Pauletta. Pauletta and her husband, Nolan, introduced her to her future husband, Winston Evans. They were married at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston on Thanksgiving evening 1970.
She was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas for over 30 years. She managed their home while her husband traveled on business trips for his company. She was very involved with her daughters' schools and extracurricular activities. After both daughters left home for college, she was able to join her husband to enjoy a lot of traveling. Marilyn also enjoyed cooking, hosting family events and holiday activities.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Winston Evans; children, Joni Evans and fiancé James Young; Cindy Evans Farris and husband Timothy Farris; grandchildren, Michael Sims and Dylan Sims; Blake Farris and Brynn Farris; brother, Wayne Thomas. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Thomas; mother, Vineta Thomas; sisters, Pauletta Willis and Glenda Boyd.
The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Scott Ulmer, a special thank you to Anita Moreno, Susan and the other nurses at the START Cancer Center, and Gentiva Hospice Crisis Center.
