Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Marilyn Louise Huff was born March 21, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Louise and Harley Russell. She was blessed to have Christian parents and grandparents who loved the Lord, and who had a positive influence on her life.

Marilyn spent many happy hours with her cousin and friends who lived near her. There were slumber parties, ball games and picnics in the summertime and sledding on the hills in the park during the winter. Marilyn learned to accept responsibility at a young age, helping with housework and baby-sitting her little brother, Don, who was nearly seven years younger.

During the Easter season soon after her ninth birthday, the Lord began working in Marilyn’s life in a special way. Marilyn accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and invited him into her heart on that Easter Sunday morning and was baptized the following Sunday.

While in junior high school, Marilyn enjoyed playing the piano and drums for her school’s orchestra, and she loved to go ice-skating at the local ice rink. Church and school activities were an important part of her life. Marilyn began to take on an active part in school government. Her favorite high school classes were journalism and art, and she especially enjoyed modern dance club and ice-skating with her friends.

Marilyn became active in the music ministry of her church, serving as pianist and part-time organist. When she was seventeen, she met a special young man, Dean Huff, at a youth meeting of her church.

She graduated from Wichita High School East, and soon after graduation, Dean and Marilyn became engaged. Dean and Marilyn were married on June 17, 1952 in a beautiful candlelight ceremony at their church. Dean and Marilyn moved Dallas, Texas, where Dean began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration. Their son, David Brian, was born December 23, 1955 at St. Paul’s Hospital.

In August of 1956, Marilyn and Dean moved to Dallas, Texas where Dean had been promoted to Air Traffic Controller at San Antonio International Airport. Marilyn with a very active toddler David decided to be a stay at home mom, homemaker and part time bookkeeper. Marilyn soon became an active member of the Tower Wives Club, a group of ladies who met frequently in each other’s homes for meetings, planning special events and picnics.

A new addition Diane Carol was born on February 9, 1960 at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio. Marilyn and Dean became members of Northeast Baptist Church in October of 1960 and raised David and Diane to know and love Jesus early on in their childhood. Marilyn became very active in her church, played the piano for the choir, taught Second Grade Sunday School for 20 years, taught Training Union Vacation Bible School, prayed for those that needed prayer and continually wrote notes of encouragement with scripture to those who were sick and troubled.

After Dean passed in 2008, Marilyn delighted in keeping up with what was going on with the family and her new little great grandchildren with one born every year. In addition to son David and daughter Diane, Marilyn’s family grew to include daughter in law Cindi Huff, son in law David Jones, six grandchildren and their spouses: Kevin Huff, Russell and Megan Huff, Benjamin and Andreya Huff, Shannon and Brandon Bernhard, Ryan and Aissa Jones, Matthew and Angela Jones and twelve great-grandchildren: Adam, JoAnna, and Grace Huff, Hannah, Abigail and Shelby Huff, Rebekah and Mikaelah Huff, Caleb, Cole and Luke Bernhard and Noah Jones. Marilyn loved her family she was blessed with each child and grandchild and great grandchild who had a special place in her heart. Marilyn went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2021. Marilyn’s greatest desire in life was that all her family would come to know the love of Jesus Christ and accept him as Lord and Savior.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 26 at 11 am, Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas
