She was born on October 14, 1950, Marilyn graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1973 with a degree in Home Economics and a minor in English. She went on to build a meaningful career in education teaching Home Economics at Madison High School in San Antonio. During her time there, Marilyn also served for many years as Chair of the Home Economics Department.
Marilyn was widely admired by both students and colleagues. She was known as one of the most beloved teachers at Madison High School, remembered especially for her patience, warmth, and the genuine care she showed toward her students.
Outside of her professional life, Marilyn enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cross-stitching, sewing, culinary arts and was very artistically creative. She was also a long-time member of a stitching group for more than 43 years. The group became an important part of her life, and many of her closest friendships were formed throughout that circle.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Arla Dougherty Hawkins and her father, Frederick F. Jasmer.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Jasmer Cantu: her niece Shelby Cantu; her brother, Jon Jasmer and his wife Beth; numerous cousins; and many dear friends. She also is survied by her hearts companion Roy Steven Watson. Finally, Marilyn leaves behind her beloved cat, Kit.
Marilyn shared an especially close bond with her mother. Their relationship was not only that of mother and daughter, but also one of best friends.
She had a special love for animals and enjoyed feeding the “critters” that visited her yard, including raccoons, skunks, possum and an armadillo. She also dearly LOVED HER CATS.
Marilyn was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was generous with her time and kindness and rarely turned down a request for help or an opportunity to take on a project. Her gentle spirit: and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on those around her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an animal charity of your choice. Those wishing to remember Marilyn may also plant a tree or blue bonnets in her memory, a small tribute to the beauty and wildlife she loved so much in Texas.
