She was born on October 31, 1956, in San Antonio to Ruth Lee Dupnick (née Ckodre) and Benjamin Henry Dupnick. She graduated from Churchill High School. On August 11, 1979, she married Edward “Rusty” League at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.
As a young girl she enjoyed camping and fishing trips with her parents, and the road trips taken with her family to Big Bend and Colorado Springs cemented her love for the Southwest. She collected pottery and other art over the years from artists throughout the region.
She was a talented artist in her own right, and created beautiful works of ceramic, paintings, and her favorite modality: ink drawings. Together with her mother and sister Becky, she vended at many craft shows in the area during the 1980s and ‘90s.
Marilyn had a great eye for design, which included caring for the gardens of each home she lived in. She would spend pleasant days watching hummingbirds from her deck as they enjoyed the blooming plants. Through the years, she and Rusty had several amazing dogs, who they loved as children, which they would take with them on vacations to the Gulf Coast regularly. By far, her favorite pastime was enjoying a cold Corona and lime with sand between her toes alongside her loved ones, because, as the saying goes: “Life’s A Beach.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rusty League; her parents, Ben and Ruth Dupnick; many beloved aunts and uncles; and her precious pups.
Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Rebecca Turnage (Richard) and Patricia Wood (Robert); nephews, Nathan Turnage and Brandon Turnage; and nieces, Deborah Boswell and Jennifer Wood. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Kathy (Enyat) Afnani, Theresa League, Margaret (Jamie) Dugan, and Mary League Jensen.
Marilyn’s sweet smile and tender heart will be missed greatly by those that loved her.
