Mario Morales Suniga

Mario Morales Suniga, the beloved patriarch of his family, entered eternal rest at the age of 76 on January 30, 2026, at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose life was defined by humility, kindness, and love for his family.

Born on October 2, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, Mario was a proud graduate of Kennedy High School. He later earned an associate degree from San Antonio College before answering the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. During his honorable military career, he completed tours of duty in Korea, the Philippines, Spain, Germany, California, Illinois, and Texas.

Following his service, Mario worked for Lockheed Martin for several years before retiring.

Mario was a kind and gentle soul who found joy in the simple things in life. Many described him as quiet and reserved, but those who knew him best knew he had an incredible sense of humor and could always bring laughter to the room.

Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Savino and Helen Suniga, and his brother, Steven. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sandra Garza Suniga; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Dillon Collier; his son and daughter-in-law, Kris and Cheyenne Suniga; his cherished grandchildren, Tessa, Sierra, and Silas; his siblings, Savino Suniga (Gloria), Tom Suniga (Elma), Sylvia Suniga Flores (Henry), and Sally Suniga Rodriguez (Robert); and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Thank you Dad for providing your family with a wonderful life traveling the world. We love you dearly and you will be forever missed.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on February 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the Religious Ceremony at Sunset Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at 2:15 p.m.
