Marjorie Wulfe Lande passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center in Schulenburg, Texas at the age of 91. A San Antonio native, Marjorie was born November 3, 1921 to Emanuel and Cecile Nordhaus Wulfe. She graduated May 27, 1939 from Brackenridge High School. Marjorie was the caregiver for her maternal grandmother, Estelle Dreyfus Nordhaus, until her grandmother's death.
She then attended Designing and Dressmaking School, where she helped sew and bead fiesta coronation gowns and became a talented seamstress. She began working at Frost Bros. on November 11, 1940 in the Alteration Department and advanced to the Unit Control Office, where she set up the merchandise check-in and sales control system. She worked full and part-time at Frost Bros. for 14 years. Marjorie met Lester M. Lande, a professional photographer, in March, 1948 and they were married on December 28, 1948 at Temple Beth-El in San Antonio.
In 1949, Marge and Les began their own professional photography business in their home, where she did retouching, photo-finishing and all of the bookkeeping for the business. The studio later moved to the corner of Olmos Drive and McCullough Avenue, where it remained until their retirement in 1973. They were married for 52 years, until Les' death in July 2001.
After degenerative arthritis caused immobility, Marjorie moved to Regent Care Center in San Antonio in October, 2006 and then to Schulenburg Regency in May, 2011 where she was lovingly cared for by their very compassionate staff, who became her extended family. She enjoyed sewing, handcrafts, gardening and was an avid crossword puzzle worker, in ink, until her death. Her incredible memory amazed all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of Temple Beth-El and a member of the Temple Beth-El Sisterhood for over 50 years.
Marjorie is survived by daughter, Cathy and husband, Reggie Guettner of Shiner, Texas; granddaughter, Allison Michelle Guettner of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Ed Wulfe and wife Lorraine, and Emil Wulfe and wife, Maxine all of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and special niece Jan Lazarus Rosenberg and husband Steve of Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
