Dear Karla and family: Last week, upon hearing the news of your mom's passing my heart became so very heavy for you. I lost my mom a year ago this month and I know how hard it is. One thing that has gotten me through these dark days is the wonderful memories. Believe it or not, I still dream about growing up on Cadillac Drive! I'll always remember all of the fun times at your house - - and who could ever forget that fabulous stairway!!! Karla - there are no words to say to take away your pain. Just know that many are praying for you during this very difficult time. There is nothing like the loss of a mother. I hope you and your family are well and hopefully we can catch up soon. Dear Swinney family, Our hearts go out to you as we only know from very recent experience we lost Rob's mom and uncle in Sept how painful this time is for each of you. My favorite memory is how your Mom trained you & Boo to make those fabulous Chocolate Chip cookies every Saturday morning for all of your brothers. To this day, I think about you guys whenever I make a batch. What a great chore to have. She trained you all well. We send our love to each of you. Hello Chip, David, Scott, Brett, Karla, and Kathleen. I was so saddened to hear your Mom passed away the other day. I have so many fond memories of being at your home and being treated like family by your Mom "Mrs. Swinney". I still have the carrot cake recipe from her but try not to make it very often these days as it is much harder to keep the pounds off as I get older. Take care - your Mom was definitely a role model that helped to shape my life and many others. Love, Paul Bradshaw

Marjorie was my treasured neighbor and friend since she moved to her house on Day Star. She nursed me through my divorce and empty nest which came at the same time. She encouraged me through grad school while working full time, always telling me,"You can do it". She was always there to cheer me on, hold my hand, cry with me, or rejoice with me. Marjorie was never too busy to ask about my girls, what they were doing, and about my grandchildren when they added to my family. She loved seeing them or hearing about them. I knew she was always there, a phone call away, and we talked almost daily. I shall miss the Sunday mornings we shared these past months after her first fall. They were precious times that we both enjoyed. We solved our problems and those of the world during those long chats. I loved her as a sister, friend, or mother, whatever the occasion presented. She loved to tell me about the lives or accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and loved them all so much. I shall miss her and loved her dearly. Love to all of her lovely family and cherish the thought of how many people loved Marjorie and treasured her as a loving, caring, Christian example for all of us to hold in high esteem. She was a class act and forever the gracious lady we all loved.

Your family is in my prayers. May she be in peace in Heaven.

We were priveleged to know Marjorie. We met her through her neighbor, Marlene McKay. She spent a 4th of July on our deck as well as Last New Years eve watching fireworks in the downtown sky. She was the most pleasant person that I have met. We will both think of her often and will miss her when we are visiting Marlene.

I moved to San Antonio in 1975 and was a new senior member of the San Antonio Churchill swim team with Brett and Karla. I knew almost no one at Churchill but it wasn?t long before I met ?Mrs. Swinney? at their big home on Blanco at West Ave. Everyone knew the Swinneys ? so it seemed the house always was full of family friends. But Mrs. Swinney was immediately friendly, and remembered who I was from the first introduction. I?m not sure if there was anyone with more warmth and generosity than Marjorie Swinney. It didn?t matter whether it was in San Antonio or the LBJ lake house ?I always felt completely welcome. Through college at Texas A&M with Brett and Scott, I always looked forward to visiting Marjorie and her family. Marjorie was surely a fantastic grandmother and her entire family will miss her dearly. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

We were so very sorry to hear of Marjorie's death. She was a wonderful friend and sister-in-law. In all of our visits to Texas, she was always available to meet a plane and/or act as a taxi service even when it meant driving to Kerrville to see Garnette's parents. During these later years when visiting our daughter, Kay, we would usually spend at least one night with Marjorie and she was always the gracious hostess. She would always want to know about our family, but she loved her children and grandchildren and never tired of talking about what they were doing and how proud she was of them. On our last visit in late July, we were able to visit with her one afternoon and are so glad we had that visit. Typical Marjorie, she insisted on serving dessert and coffee. We will certainly miss that enjoyable part of our future visits to San Antonio and we will miss her. 
Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend her memorial service, but we send our thoughts, love, and sympathies to all you children and your families.

Ms. Swinney was such a pleasant lady and I will always remember the fun we had at the lake house playing volley ball, eating icecream and water melon. My prayers are with you all.
