Mark Andrew Skeans, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2023, at the age of 62.Mark was born on October 3, 1960, to Elsie (Dufour) and Ted Skeans in East Tawas, Michigan. As the son of an Air Force Colonel, Mark was able to travel the world until high school when the family settled in San Antonio, TX. Mark received both his Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Texas A&M University, earning many accolades throughout his time as an Aggie. He graduated in 1984 with a Masters of Urban & Regional Planning, a degree path that was created for Mark after he expressed interest in becoming a developer. His professors said they had been waiting for someone like Mark to come forward to start that endeavor. He built an accomplished career in commercial real estate brokerage, management, and self storage development, with two of his developments winning awards of excellence. Mark was on the board of the TX Self Storage Association for nine years and remained an active member in the mini storage community. Mark was known throughout the business world as a man of integrity.
Mostly, Mark loved spending time surrounded by family and friends. His favorite way to end a busy weekend was to invite loved ones over for “Sunday Night Dinner” to enjoy a home-cooked meal paired with an evening of laughter and sharing stories. He loved spending time at the family lake house— building fires for roasting marshmallows or taking the kids on boat rides to get ice cream on a hot summer day. He will be remembered as a kind, creative, generous, and loving man, with a keen sense of humor and colorful wardrobe to match. We were lucky to know him.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife, Sherrie Skeans; daughters, Jaclyn Skeans and Jessica Skeans; stepdaughters, Melissa Hoppes (Greg) and Melinda Smiljanic (Mark); grandchildren, Weston Hoppes and Kailyn Hoppes; father, Ted Skeans (Dorothy); and brother, Robert Skeans.
