Martha, the youngest of four children, grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi along with her two brothers and sister. On her 20th birthday she went on a blind date with a handsome Air Force officer. Upon arriving home she kicked off her heels and announced she met the man she was going to marry. They were married ten months later and were best friends and inseparable for 61 years. She accompanied her husband during his many assignments over the years. The three years spent in Germany was one of the highlights of their travels.
Martha's passion in life was caring for her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her three grandchildren were a joy to her. Martha was an active member of First Baptist Church in San Antonio for more than 20 years and was dearly loved by many. She cherished those in her Sunday School Class and volunteered regularly at her church in two different areas; preparing meals for homebound individuals and in clothing donation.
Martha was predeceased by her daughter Sylvia Burgess. She is survived by her husband she affectionately called "my friend" Frank Burgess, her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Dr. Richard Longoria, Grandchildren, Jennifer Japhet, Jeff Japhet, and Alexa Longoria.
