I was so saddened to discover the of passing of Martha, your mother, grandmother and sister. It has been years and years since we last spoke, but at one point in our lives we were the best of friends.

We met when my family was transferred to that tiny town in the Texas panhandle called Pampa.  Though my father's job only lasted 3 months, Martha's and mine friendship lasted for a decade or so longer.  My family returned to Houston and her family moved to Alamo Heights. 

Over the years we wrote back and forth and visited each other's homes during summer vacation. All during those teenage years I considered her my best friend. 

It was when she decided to go to Spain that we really lost touch. I met her soon to be fiance once when they came to Houston to speak to a family friend that was an anesthesiologist. They were curious if that was a viable course for her fiance's future.  I never saw her again.

In 1984 I called Betty to let her know that my daughter had been born. Martha had constantly been on my mind at that point and I was curious how she was doing. Betty told me she and her husband had just had twins. 
We chatted briefly. 

Martha was always very sweet to me. When I knew her, she was a talented artist and I hope she continued to enjoy her creativity.

Dear Martha and Maria,

I was so saddened to here of your Mom’s passing away.  I didn’t here in time to attend the funeral.  I wanted to tel you girls how very sorry I am.  She loved you girls so and was so thrilled to have a grandson.  I know you will miss her dearly.  I will miss her too.  Love, Mary Terry

Martha & Maria, a  great love  like a mother’s is never gone.  It evolves and lives in our essence forever.  Martha will live in you through the many beautiful memories you keep from her.  
She was an extraordinary woman to us.  Always smiling, professional, kind and helpful, she welcomed and helped us when we moved to San Antonio some years ago therefore she will be remembered with love.
May Martha rest in peace and God let perpetual light shine upon her.
