

Martha Jean Windham, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 in San Antonio. She was born November 15, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to Jimmy and Addie Wilson. She moved to San Antonio in 1942, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948 and graduated from Baylor University in May, 1952.
Martha taught school in Yoakum, San Antonio I.S.D. and North East I.S.D. for 35 years. She married R. E. Windham in May, 1958. They had one daughter, Sallisue Mearse.
She served beside her husband as he was President of Alamo Heights Optimist Club, Governor of South Central District and Vice President of Optimist International working for the youth of the community. They worked together on the board of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation and the Optimist Basketball All Stars games. She was very active in her church and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years. Survived by her daughter, Salli Mearse and husband Gary; two wonderful grandsons, Mason and Matthew Mearse; and many friends.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
