Martin was born on February 1, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, to Martin and Juanita Aguilar. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1949 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant during his four years of service.
On February 11, 1951, Martin married the love of his life, Guadalupe Cordova and shared 50 years of marriage.
Following his military service, Martin dedicated 33 years of his career to the Department of Defense Mapping Agency, working in the Hydrographic/Topographic Center. While working full time, he furthered his education at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1962 before retiring in 1986.
Martin will be remembered as a kind and caring man who brought joy to those around him. He loved to dance and had a special gift for making people smile. He was a devoted fan of both the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, always cheering on his favorite teams. Martin loved going to the casino. He loved the sounds—the cheerful ringing of bells and the bright flashing lights that made everything feel alive. He also cherished sharing these moments with his family, especially weekends gathered together barbequing, and creating lasting memories with those he loved most.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Aguilar and wife Toni of San Antonio, Texas; his daughters, Virginia Cotner and husband Herbert of Mansfield, Arkansas, and Pati Aguilar of San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Amelia Menchaca of San Antonio, Texas; his brothers, Guillermo Mendoza and wife Lydia of San Antonio, Texas, and Richard Mendoza of San Antonio, Texas; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Justin Aguilar, Julianne Aguilar, Alexander Guzman, Clarissa Guzman, Sarah McKinney, Evan Cotner, Melissa Cotner, and Kyle Cotner; and his great-grandchildren, Grace McKinney, Ava McKinney, and Rebecca McKinney.
Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe Aguilar; his son, Martin Aguilar III; his daughter, Kathryn Aguilar; his brothers, Louis Aguilar and Armando Aguilar; and his sisters, Margaret Suarez and Juanita Granado.
