Martin Edward Dupont, age 73, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on October 16, 1951, Martin dedicated his life to service, both to his country and to his family.
A proud graduate of Thibodaux High School (Class of 1969), Martin earned his Bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University in 1973 and went on to obtain a Master's degree in Political Science from Auburn University in 1988. He also completed advanced military education, including the Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Martin served 28 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 2001 at the rank of Colonel. During his distinguished military career, he held significant leadership positions, including Chief Air Force Liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives and Chief of Legislative Affairs for the U.S. Pacific Command. His overseas assignments took him to Korea, Holland, and Germany, and he was recognized with numerous commendations, including the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Following his military retirement, Martin continued to serve in the defense community as a consultant, first in Washington, D.C., from 2001 to 2013, and later with Battlespace Inc. from 2014 to 2020.
Martin found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time on the golf course, reading a good book, and taking long walks. Above all, he cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Lisa Dupont; his daughter Stephanie Dupont; his sons from a previous marriage, Jay (Mandy) Dupont and David Dupont; and his beloved grandchildren: Landon, Trey, Coen, Amy, Evan, and Mena. He is also survived by his siblings, Benton Dupont, Jimmy Dupont, and Suzanne House. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, JB and Frances Dupont.
A funeral Mass will be held on what would have been his 74th birthday, October 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a cause close to Martin’s heart.
Martin will be remembered as a patriot, a scholar, a mentor, and above all, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of service and strength lives on in all who knew him.
