Martina was born in San Francisco on August 30, 1924, to Dolores and Severino Lacasa. The youngest of several, Martina grew up in Hollister, California with her brothers Joey and Charlie and sister Marie Angeles, graduated from San Benito High School in 1942 then went to work for the (Bell) Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. After meeting Jack Butler at a dance she married him, and for thirty-five years raised two children, Kerry Dale Butler and Timothy Lee Butler, establishing and running households around the world supporting her husband’s military career across multiple continents, through several wars and dozens of duty stations until he retired in 1976. Retirement was met with much the same discipline as military life, as Martina pursued her personal interests with the same will for structure and enthusiasm, even as she demonstrated within the family her always ready willingness to share accumulated insight and always, a generous heart. She will be missed.
Martina was preceded in death by her parents Dolores and Severino Lacasa, her husband Jack Richard Butler, her son Timothy Lee Butler, her brothers Charlie and Joey and sister Angela, and her grandson Michael Butler.
She is survived by her son Kerry Dale Butler, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements and services are being managed by Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Martina will be interred with her husband, Colonel Jack Butler, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on March 3rd. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Martina by donating to the Alzheimer's Association either on their web site (alz.org) or via mail at The Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, FL17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
