Marvin Aboloff—known to many as “Marvelous Marvin” for his boundless energy, larger-than-life personality, and extraordinary passion for people—passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He leaves behind a legacy overflowing with love, creativity, humor, and dedication to family, community, and the many pursuits that filled his remarkable life.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 2, 1936, Marvin grew up in a tight-knit community that shaped his curiosity and drive. He left Philadelphia to attend Missouri State Teachers College, but his adventurous spirit soon led him to enlist in the U.S. Army. While stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, he met the love of his life, Linda Polunsky. Their connection was instant, enduring, and transformative. They were married for 64 years and built a beautiful family that became Marvin’s greatest joy.
Marvin served honorably in the Army as a medical specialist and earned a marksmanship badge—one of many early indicators of his lifelong commitment to excellence. After his service, he joined the family seafood business, Polunsky’s Seafood, where he worked for 15 years before he and Linda opened Marvin Seafoods in 1975. Together they ran a thriving business for another 15 years, grounding their work in integrity, hard work, and personal connection with customers.
But Marvin’s talents and interests extended far beyond his professional life. A man of incredible versatility, he was an athlete, an artist, an entertainer, a collector, and above all, a storyteller. For 15 years, he proudly served as a Senior Olympics athlete and spokesperson, earning numerous awards in baseball, tennis, basketball tournaments, and speed walking. He approached every athletic endeavor with enthusiasm, discipline, and joy.
Marvin also embraced the world of theater and film, acting in two feature films, more than 40 television commercials, and 14 theatrical productions. A gifted playwright, writer, and director of local commercials, he thrived in creative environments, bringing laughter and meaning to audiences throughout San Antonio. His love of the performing arts extended to his personal life as well—he and Linda attended the Broadway Series every year, sharing countless cherished evenings enriched by storytelling and song.
His devotion to community was unwavering. A longtime member of Congregation Agudas Achim, Marvin served as President of the Men’s Club and was an active participant in the Minyonaires. His warm presence, leadership, and willingness to show up for others made him a beloved figure within the congregation.
Marvin had an extraordinary appreciation for history, memorabilia, and family heritage. He was an avid collector of Abbott & Costello memorabilia and a lifelong San Antonio Spurs fan—one of the original season ticket holders at the very start of the league. He saved mementos from every event he attended and honored every achievement within his family, carefully archiving each one. He loved playing poker and gin with his good friends, they played weekly. Marvin loved to travel and went all over the world with Linda, they loved to go on cruises together. He captured countless family memories using his 8mm camera and later through hundreds of photographs, preserving moments that will now serve as cherished reminders of the joy he cultivated.
Above all else, Marvin adored his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Aboloff; his children Jeff Aboloff (Shelley), Jules Aboloff, and Molly Aboloff Sowry (Mike); his grandchildren Mason Aboloff (Katie), Alyssa Aboloff Silver (Joe), Emma Sowry, and Aidan Sowry; and his great-grandchildren Miles and Morgan Silver. To each of them, he was a source of warmth, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.
Marvin’s life was filled with purpose, creativity, and generosity. He celebrated every milestone—big or small—and made sure those around him felt valued and seen. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the memories he preserved, and the countless lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held at Agudas Achim Memorial Gardens, located at 1727 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218, on December 14, 2025, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marvin’s honor to Congregation Agudas Achim.
Marvelous Marvin will be deeply missed, but the magic he brought into the world will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
