Mary F. Canchola entered into eternal rest on June 2, 2014 at 10:18 A.M. after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 90. Mary was born in Somerset, TX on April 16, 1924, daughter of the late Leon and Seferina Falcon.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Reynaldo A. Canchola, mother and father, mother-in-law and father-in-law, sisters, brother, son-in-law, Morris R. Cooke. Mary worked at San Antonio Portland Cement Company during World War II and later worked for the Northeast School District-Cafeteria Department. Her greatest accomplishments were being a mother, mentor, and caring for her family. Her favorite past times were spoiling her loved ones and making precious memories that would last a lifetime. Her energy level far surpassed most people half her age; she always embraced everyone with a friendly smile, and a big hug. She was a very active, longtime member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church and also served in the church’s ministries as Catechist, Journey of Faith RCIA, ACTS, Homebound Communion and Hijas de Maria. Mary was a survivor of rectal-colon cancer for 51 years, but never let that get in her way of serving God and her family.
Mary leaves behind three loving daughters, Dahlia Castillo (Juan), Sylvia Cooke, Maggie Estes; her grandchildren, Novie Rae Allen, Michael Castillo (Erica), Nol Ray Allen, Manuel Castillo (Nicole); great grandchildren, Nadia Castillo, Mikee Castillo, Sean Castillo, Haleigh Castillo, Maya Allen and Khalisse Castillo; sister, Ernestina Trejo (Andres) and brother Fernando Falcon and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and many, many close friends.
A special word of thanks and appreciation to Father William (Bill) Collins and Odyssey Hospice on Blanco Road.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014 beginning at 6:00 P.M. followed by the Rosary service at 7:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz with Father Bill Collins as celebrant. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. To all that knew Mary and would like to celebrate her life and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony de Padua Adoration Chapel, 102 Lorenz Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.
