Mary Sue (Russell) Hubbart was born on July 20, 1936 in Circleville, Ohio. She was the first of three daughters to parents, Malcolm and Martha. From the time she was a young girl, Mary Sue was enamored with learning to play the piano. After graduating from high school, she moved to Columbus to study nursing. It was there that she met her husband, Jim, to whom she was married for 64 years. They lived a military life for 22 years during which she completed her degree and pursued a career in nursing, while raising a family. She worked for the Baptist Hospital system in San Antonio for over 20 years.
Mary Sue was a longtime active member of Coker Methodist Church. Among other activities, she played piano for her Sunday School class and sang in a small choral group. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend who loved giving gifts to others.
She transitioned to her heavenly home on January 3, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Mary Sue “fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, JoAnn Russell and Janie Mallett, and husband, who lovingly called her “Suzette.” She is survived by her daughter, Susan Garrett (Richard); son Scott (Cori); grandchildren, James and Emma; a brother-in-law; a niece and three nephews.
Mary Sue was loved and cherished by many, including her caregivers at Poet’s Walk Memory Care Residence as well as Abundant Hospice. Special thanks and appreciation are given to Charlotte, who was her invaluable personal helper for two years.
We praise God that her struggle is finally over and believe she is healed, whole, free, and more alive and beautiful than ever before.
Mom, may you bask in the glory of Jesus as you are filled with eternal peace and joy. Until we see you again, you remain in our hearts with everlasting love.
