

Mary Ceola Leach, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 22, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to George and Gertrude Whitener.
Mary graduated from Carroll High School in 1964 and went on to earn her degree from Texas Woman’s University in 1968. She was an accomplished athlete, winning countless tennis tournaments, and was equally known for her warm spirit, devotion to family, and the many interests that filled her life with joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Whitener, and her grandson, Larson Leach.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Don Leach; her sons, John (Beth) Leach and Jim (Nadia) Leach; her cherished grandchildren, Lexee, Drake, Travis, and Taylor; her sister, Grace Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Mary’s life was defined by her passions and the people she loved. She was a dedicated competitive and social tennis player, a talented quilter who lovingly created hundreds of quilts, and a skilled gardener with a beautiful yard full of thriving plants. She enjoyed Mexican food, country music, Sudoku puzzles, fishing with her grandchildren, traveling with her husband and friends, and spending time at the beach. Her deep love of Texas history, especially The Alamo, reflected her pride in her roots, and she always cherished memories of her childhood trips to Garner State Park.
Above all, Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave her heart fully to her family. Her love, encouragement, and joyful presence will be carried forward in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
A visitation for Mary will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
