Mary A. Leifeste, age 78, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. She was born on May 25, 1931, in San Marcos, Texas, the second of Albert and Lurline Tombaugh’s three daughters. Mary had an idyllic life growing up in San Marcos, where she later met and married the love of her life, Harold E. Leifeste, and embraced with a passion her life as a proud military spouse, traveling with Harold to Japan, Germany and Italy. Mary was a delightful combination of Texas girl and world traveler, a loving and caring wife and mother with an artistic talent for decorating, cooking, entertaining and living life to its fullest. Mary worked for many years for CPS, and in later years, after her husband’s death, lived in Mission Trace and briefly at Brighton Gardens. Mary was sustained by her faith, and leaves many loving friends at University United Methodist Church and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold E. Leifeste, her parents, Albert and Lurline Tombaugh, and her older sister, Billie Ewing. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family: daughter, Jeanne Butler, son-in-law, Danny Butler, and grandsons, Bryan and Ben Butler; son, Chuck Leifeste, and daughter-in-law, Molly Barnes; sister, Dixie Dabelgott; and numerous brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Mary had an inspiringly happy and loving heart, and her brilliant light will be sorely missed.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at University United Methodist Church, 5084 DeZavala Road, SATX 78249 with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the University United Methodist Church.
