Mary B. Medellin

Mary's interests included family, gardening and reading. She could easily keep African Violets happy and orchids thriving. Mary devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother and her grandchildren, Michael, Mark and Matthew.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Medellin was committed to volunteerism. She loved to swim and shared her talents with the American Red Cross where she served as a swimming instructor and taught many children to swim. Mary enjoyed being an active member of her church and devoted her time supporting the church's mission through a variety of groups and organizations. She was also a Senior Advocate for the Ombudsman office of AACOG. Her volunteer service later in life included helping the senior community by participating in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Mary married Jimmie Z. Medellin of Karnes City, TX, who preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage.

She is survived by her daughter, Irene Hernandez; grandsons, Michael Hernandez and wife, Flora, Mark Hernandez and wife, Sandra and Matthew Hernandez and wife, Michelle; great-grandchildren, Joseph Hernandez, Ashley Aguilar, Michael Ryan Hernandez, twins, Agatha and Abigail Hernandez, Sarah Alertas-Hernandez, great-great grandchildren, Ernie, Joey, Jr., Bella, Enrique, Sophia, Aydenn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 beginning 5:30 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Catholic Church No. 2. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
