

MaryAnn Shaughnessy (nee Hammonds), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 21, 2023. She was born on January 26, 1949, in Pleasanton, Texas, to her loving parents, Vernon and Hattie Hammonds. MaryAnn spent most of her life in San Antonio, Texas, where she made countless cherished memories.
MaryAnn's heart was captured by the love of her life, Martin Shaughnessy, with whom she shared 53 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless devotion. MaryAnn and Martin were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Sheila Dienglewicz (Rob) and Kelly Schwennesen (Thomas). Maryann adored her grandchildren, Martin Shaughnessy, Hailey Dienglewicz, Thomas McKinley Schwennesen, and Todd Brooks Schwennesen, and her love for them knew no bounds.
MaryAnn dedicated 38 years of her life to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where she was known for her hard work and dedication. She was truly committed to her profession and made a lasting impact on those she worked with.
In addition to her immediate family, MaryAnn is survived by her loving sisters, Joann Heinrich and Patricia (Richard) Hite, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. MaryAnn's family and friends will always cherish the memories they shared with her.
MaryAnn had a zest for life and loved to travel. Traveling was one of her greatest passions, and she was fortunate to visit many beautiful places throughout her life. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her cherished grandchildren, who brought immense happiness into her life.
MaryAnn Shaughnessy is preceded in death by her beloved father, Vernon Hammonds, her dear mother and stepfather, Hattie and John Weir. As well as her loving nieces, Ann Turner and MaryAnn Benoist, nephew Richard Hite and brother-in-law Butch Heinrich. May they all rest in eternal peace.
MaryAnn Shaughnessy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, love, and humor will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring North on Monday, December 4th at 6:00 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on the same day.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5th, at 11 a.m. at OLPH in Selma, Tx. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Susan G. Komen or St. Vincent de Paul in memory of MaryAnn Shaughnessy. These organizations were close to MaryAnn's heart, and any contributions made will continue her legacy of compassion and generosity.
