

Maurine Vogelsang Wallace, born July 2, 1925, to Antonie and C.L. Vogelsang in Brenham, Texas. She graduated from Brenham High School in 1942 then went on to Blinn College in Brenham for two years graduating in 1944.
Maurine moved to San Antonio with her parents in 1944. She worked at her uncle’s store, T.E. Poppe Auto Parts for about a year.
In 1945, San Antonio had a very bad epidemic of Polio. Maurine got polio and was completely paralyzed in the beginning. She was at the Robert B. Green Hospital for six months. There was much pain in the beginning with all kinds of treatment. Gradually her arms, neck and back got better. Later she was given long braces for both legs and learned to walk a little with crutches. Then she went home. Her mother found a therapist to help her. She did many exercises and walked more and more each day for months.
On April 24, 1948, she married Frank C. Wallace. After many years the marriage ended in divorce and no children.
In 1953 she got a job at Frost Bank in the Trust Department. At the same time she was walking with a brace on the right leg and crutches and doing very well. Maurine enjoyed her work at the bank and was there for 36 years, retiring in December of 1989.
Then she was very active in the “Women of the Church” organization at Grace Lutheran Church, San Antonio. She was a long time member of the church and served as the president of the “Women of the Church” for two separate terms. She hosted the church circle meetings at her home many times.
Maurine enjoyed flowers very much and loved the Spurs!
She lived in her home until the end, made possible with the faithful providers coming in to help.Maurine was preceded in death by, her cousins Corinne Rudloff and Dr. Otto Brandt, Jr. Maurine is survived by her cousin Terry Rudloff and wife Bonnie and their three children and families. Her loyal and cherished caregiver JoAnn Siller, family, and staff also survive her.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 504 Avenue E, San Antonio, Texas 78215 or to the charity of your choice.The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church.

Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park South. Pallbearers will be, Beldon Rudloff, Cliff Rudloff, Dawson Rudloff, Colton Rudloff, Brian Kubala, Jake Kubala, Steve Lindner and Carlton Kreger.
