Melanie Marie Hudson passed away peacefully, surrounded by family April 27, 2025, in San Antonio Texas. She bravely fought brain cancer for 13 years and is an inspiration to all who knew her. She never lost her spark or her sense of humor. She loved singing praises at church and stood with hands raised until she was no longer able. That did not stop her from whooping and cheering as the spirit led.
Melanie was born in Atlantic City New Jersey October 3, 1974, … right over the bridge from her home on Brigantine Island. She graduated in the top 10 of her class from Holy Spirit High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Rutgers University … Cum Laude.
She began her career working for Scripps Research Lab in San Diego before taking a teaching job at Christian High School in El Cajon California. She never returned to the lab. Until 2022 she ran a tutoring business and then took a position as a Math Interventionist at Great Hearts Northern Oaks. She was well liked by her students and they found success under her care.
Melanie was adventurous. She loved the beach, traveling and skiing. She trained Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate. Between jobs after college she went on a six-week mission trip to Papua New Guinea. This included flights on small aircraft, canoe trips deep into the rainforest, and learning a little Tok Pisin (Pidgin language).
Melanie was devoted to her husband of 23 years, Jeremy Hudson, and their two children Evelyn and Samuel. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She also doted over her nieces and nephews, loving them as if they were her own.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Estelle Valentine King “EVK”; her father, James King; her stepfather, Troy “Yorty” Smith; and her stepmother, Elaine King.
In addition to her husband and children, Melanie is survived by her mother, Marian King-Smith; her sister Jennifer Keats (Halsey Keats); half-sister Kasey King; stepbrother, Jeremy Fayne; her nephews, Dylan, Nathanael, Halsey “Tiki”, Blair, Javier Keats; her brother-in-law, Matthew Hudson; her sister-in-law, Jessie Hudson; and nieces, Celia and Lucinda.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday May 3, 2025, at San Antonio First Church of the Nazarene (10715 West Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78213)
