Melinda George Tucker passed away in the late afternoon of Tuesday, November 12th after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends, who were each uniquely and tremendously blessed by her presence in their lives. Melinda was born on September 15, 1972, in Odessa, Texas to Amanda and Fred George. As the oldest of four children, she loved to dance, and she cheered for Permian High School and Bonham Junior High, where she began dating her future husband, Brian Tucker. She attended Texas Christian University and was an enthusiastic member of the Chi Omega sorority. She married Brian in 1997, and he is widely considered to be a very lucky guy. Together, they moved around the world during Brian’s service in the Army, from New York, to Germany, to El Paso, then to Odessa, Tyler, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, and finally, San Antonio. During her time in San Antonio, Melinda loved her community at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Melinda is survived by many: her mother, Amanda George, her three siblings, Ben George, Amy Koch, and Sarah Branum, her husband, Brian, and their five children. Her three sons, William (23), John Paul (19), and Luke (17), possess varying levels of common sense and intelligence, but each miss their mother equally. William currently attends Wake Forest Law School, John Paul is a Chancellor’s Scholar at TCU, and Luke is finishing up his Senior year as the captain of the lacrosse team at TMI high school. Sadly, all of them got their father’s looks.
Fortunately, her two daughters, Emma (21), and Lillian (6) are just as beautiful and strong willed as their mother. Emma has proudly followed in her mother’s footsteps as a current member of the Chi Omega chapter at TCU, where she is pursuing a degree in Accounting. Lilly goes to Great Hearts Academy, and she is bravely taking on the first grade. Any extra-worldly help in teaching Lillian how to read chapter books would be greatly appreciated.
Melinda had a wonderfully refined taste, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys she received from her family. She loved to travel, and the trips she planned were always an incredible time. She was tough and fought until the very end. In her last moments, she was much more worried about others than herself. We are all very sure that she is up there in heaven watching down on us with her father, Fred, and her grandparents, Dorthy and PJ Wallace, and Sheila and Charles George.
She brought so many souls to her beloved Catholic faith, and her belief in the grace of God and the love of the Virgin Mary never faltered. She received the Eucharist just before she passed. She was at peace. Her powerful personality allowed her to build a beautiful community around her. Her funeral mass, 2:30 on Sunday, November 17th at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, will be a testament to that fact. Additionally, there will be a memorial rosary in her honor at 6:00 on Friday, November 15th at Our Lady of Grace. She will be incredibly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Guadalupe Home, a project of Catholic Charities of San Antonio.
