Melissa Dawn Henderson, age 57, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Melissa was born to parents Dwight and Donnasue (Saxe) Henderson in Duluth, Minnesota, on July 12, 1967. As a military dependent, she was afforded the opportunity to live in various places before the family settled in San Antonio in 1983. There, she graduated from Lee High School in 1985 as an Honor Student, subsequently receiving scholarship offers from several Universities. She ultimately selected Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. There she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting, graduating Suma Cum Laude. She began employment with H&R Block as an income tax advisor, maintaining the role for 29 years and establishing a sizable, loyal, and dedicated clientele. Solving complex tax issues brought her great satisfaction.
Melissa was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. As a child she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She never wavered from that choice and from that time to her home going pursued the attributes of Godly character and Christ likeness. In church her passions were children’s ministries. She loved children and was focused on teaching preschoolers to know Jesus Christ through Sunday school and Vacation Bible School (VBS). VBS was an especially big deal to her. She found a special joy in serving the less fortunate at West Avenue Compassion. Melissa was known for her fondness and enjoyment of shopping, reading mysteries, crafts, and chocolate.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Donnasue Saxe Henderson; sister, Susan Lynette Baker; niece, Alyssa Dawn Baker; and grandparents. Melissa is survived by her father, Dwight Henderson; brother-in-law, David Baker, and his wife Sylvia; aunt, Kay Warren; and cousins, Rhonda Mullins and husband Sam, Nicole Worsham and husband Lee, Kimberly Young, and husband Scott.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at First Church of the Nazarene.
