

Mel was a kind, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He was a great man and leaves a great legacy to the family to whom he devoted his life. His loyalty and love for his wife and family were the essence and hallmark of his life. He loved helping others and served for a number of years as a Bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He truly lived a Christ-like life. He was a master chess player, and was rarely beaten. He also enjoyed golfing with his sons and grandsons, but especially enjoyed playing games with his young grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He served in the Navy and was a Program Manager in the early development of remotely piloted vehicles for the government.
Mel was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 9, 1925 to Herman and Elsie Miller. He married Kathryn Emmett on July 10, 1946 in the Logan Utah Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and his seven children and their spouses: Cindy Smedley (Dennis); Myra DeBernardi (Ronald); Nelleen Moll (Kraig); Rick (Julie); Melody Milar (Ron); Andrew (Cathy); and Leslie Tidwell (David). He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the viewing at 11:00 A.M. at the LDS Chapel.
SERVICE WILL BE SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2013 AT 12:00 NOON AT THE LDS CHAPEL, 645 KNIGHTS CROSS. A private burial at Fort Sam Houston will take place at another time.
