

She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grammy, great grammy and friend to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roberto Gonzalez. She was the last remaining of seven children born to Juan and Feliz and is preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Vega, Consuelo Atkinson, Beatriz Atkinson-Ramos, Eglantina Amaya, and brothers Enrique Corona and Juan Manuel Corona. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Benito (Benny Boy) Naranjo.
She is survived by her children Anna (Eddie) Martinez, Xavier (Susie) Naranjo and daughter-in-law Dora Naranjo, as well as her adored grandchildren Diana Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Xavier Naranjo Jr, Stephanie Naranjo, Selena Naranjo, Jessica Naranjo, and sister Leticia Corona. Also surviving are her precious great grandchildren Aribella, Olivia, Jaxon, Benjamin, Josie, Addie, Jacob, Journee, Sammy, Anthony and Amari, as well as numerous family members who lovingly called her Tia Shetty.
After her parents returned to Texas they eventually settled in San Benito, where Mercedes graduated from San Benito High School. She ended a long career with the Social Security Administration in 1993.
Her love of reading, shopping, floral arranging, decorating and anything with beautiful colors was evident throughout her life, so we ask that all that attend her services please wear bright colors to help celebrate her. Mercedes was a wonderful lady with a heart of gold. Special thanks to all who so lovingly cared for her, South Texas Renal Care Group, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Westover Hills, Heart to Heart Hospice, and especially our cherished friend Maria Alcala and her family for the love and compassion they always showed our mother.
Mercedes leaves a legacy of kindness, laughter and love. Her soul deservingly rests now, as she is welcomed into the hands of our Lord.
Family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:00 A.M.. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary West, 1710 W. Loop 1604 N., San Antonio, TX 78251.
