Mervin B. Poerner

Mervin B. Poerner, age 95, passed away November 23, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on July 31, 1915 in D’Hanis, Texas to Henry and Molly Poerner. Mervin was a WWII Army veteran, civil service employee, retired from Kelly AFB, active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus member and volunteer for Meals on Wheels and The SAMM Center. He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Poerner and son, Matt Poerner. He is survived by his children Martin Poerner and wife Nancy, Russell Poerner and wife Sophia, Bonny Raby and husband Jim; grandchildren, Robert and Elizabeth Poerner, Natalie Laventino, Jennifer Zimmerman, Diane White; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Noelle Laventino, Ella Zimmerman; brother, John Poerner, sisters, Irene Fohn, Leona Finger, Effie Bendele, Anita Tschirhart; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Road with Rev. Stuart Juleen officiating. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery # 2.
