As the cherished only child of Lucile Klaus Whiteside and Maurice Dunn Whiteside, Kitty's journey unfolded with distinction. Her academic pursuits led her through Sam Houston High School to the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, where she delved into the realms of Radio and Television. Making her mark while there as a distinguished Texas Star Twirler and the astute News Director for KUT-FM in Austin.
A daughter of Texas soil, Kitty's footsteps extend to Kerrville, Bedford, The Woodlands, and most recently, Rockport. Here, enamored by coastal living, she found a sense of home and was grateful to be surrounded by friends like family.
An ardent lover of animals, Kitty's legacy intertwined with the breeding of Scottish Fold and Persian cats for two decades. Her prowess heralded 35 Grand Champions, 5 Distinguished Merit cats, and 11 National Wins. A luminary in the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), Kitty's influence reverberated as an International All Breed Judge and author of the renowned ‘Dear Kitty’ column in CATS magazine. Her pinnacle moment came when she had the honor of ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange during her tenure as Vice President of CFA. She often spoke of her treasured relationships that were formed during her years of breeding and judging.
To the very end, Kitty remained faithful to her adoration for animals, finding comfort in her cats and the cherished companionship of her beloved dogs, Dancer and Paddy.
Beyond her achievements, Kitty found pride in her lineage, symbolized by her involvement in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and United Daughters of War of 1812 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She held various positions in DAR and was an Honorary Chapter Regent.
At the heart of Kitty's existence is her commitment to the Catholic faith. She found community at her home church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Rockport, Texas.
Survived by her beloved sons, Russell Wayne Angell of The Woodlands, Texas, and Matthew Dunn Angell of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Kitty found her ultimate source of pride in family. To her, these two men stood as the pinnacle of her life’s accomplishments—an ode to maternal love and devotion alongside her unwavering faith in God. In her passing, Kitty's memory lingers through her daughters-in-law, Dona Angell and Amy Angell, and her cherished grandchildren, Jordan David Whitehead, Caroline Marie Angell, and Colby James Angell—each a testament to her unyielding love and affection.
Embraced by a network of devoted friends, Kitty's presence radiated warmth and love. These friendships, she often proclaimed, were her true treasures—beacons of joy, laughter, and unwavering companionship.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Kitty from twelve o’clock to two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday the 13th of July in the Yellow Rose Suite at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.
