Michael Bruce Gerescher, beloved husband of Carolann Gerescher, passed away at the age of 78, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. He was born on February 9, 1944, in Elizabeth, NJ, to parents, Florence and Michael Gerescher. Michael and Carolann were married in 1966, while he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1967, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Scranton, in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Analyst from 1968-1970, with time spent in Vietnam.
They moved with their two children to San Antonio in 1973, where Michael began his career as an Executive Vice President for several chapters of the AGC of America (Associated General Contractors), including the San Antonio Chapter (1973-1989), the Northwest Florida Chapter (1989-1998) and the Western Kentucky Construction Association (2000-2011). In 2002 he received an Award for Chapter Executive of the Year, Small Chapter (WKCA). Michael retired in 2011 when they returned to Texas to be near their children and grandchildren. In course of his 36-year career with the AGC, they made many life-long friends all over the country.
Michael was a kind and gentle person, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed coaching his children’s soccer teams many years ago, playing on a team himself and cheering at his grandchildren’s games. He was a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys but enjoyed all sports. He had fun at casinos, racetracks, and playing poker with his senior buddies. He delighted in making up songs and singing with his sister, and his hilarious renditions of Happy Birthday sung to family and friends will be missed. Michael and Carolann liked to cook together, explore wineries, relax on the beach, take drives to the Hill Country, and see the latest movies.
Michael loved to travel and often spoke of the many trips and exciting, sometimes funny, experiences they shared with friends. After retirement, cruises became a part of their travel plans, and they renewed their 50th anniversary vows on a long-awaited cruise to Alaska. He leaves behind many beautiful memories for his family and friends to look back on and remember.
Michael is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolann Sobolak Gerescher, and his children, Todd Michael Gerescher (Carla) and Kristen Gerescher Vera (Daniel). His legacy includes his grandchildren, Jonathan Gerescher (Madeleine), Matthew Gerescher (Jenna Jezierski), Matthew Vera and Natalie Vera, who lovingly called him “Papa”. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Janyth Gerescher Primrose (Allen); cousins, Carryl Beth Robinson and Robyn Smith Pond (George); and Ed Sobolak (Linda) and family.
