On December 22, 2022 Michael C. Mason crossed over through the gates of heaven to his next destination. What if I told you that a young man moved from McAllen, Texas and went to work sweeping a warehouse only to become a Parts Manager, Vice President, and then opening his own company in the same profession? Success seemed to follow him wherever he walked. A constant joker, Mike as he liked to be called, would meet and marry Gloria Mason and remain married till his passing 57 years later in the very house that he and Gloria purchased together.
As a father Mike would teach his boys how to drive a car, shine shoes, shave, iron shirts, dress properly, mow lawns, rake leaves, and the value of a hard days labor while always standing tall for personal beliefs. Mike and Gloria would raise 3 boys while managing countless expenses and never complaining about life because they always had each other. As a husband Mike would constantly romance Gloria beginning with showing up to her apartment while dating carrying a bag of groceries saying he liked her too much to see her refrigerator empty and convincing her she would one day be his wife. Later in life Mike would start every one of Gloria's mornings off with breakfast. He would wake up early to always ensure her food was prepared by him perfectly, after all, she was his one true love. One profession and one wife his entire life is what defined Mike. As a businessman, Mike was a genius but never acted like it a day in his life. He maintained a simple existence even calling his 2001 Honda Accord and 1986 Chevy El Camino his second and third favorite things next to his wife.
Mike's wealth was built on his love for Gloria and his character as a father and a man. Having the nicest lawn in the neighborhood meant something to Mike complaining as he got older that he missed mowing his own grass. His vehicles were always washed, his face always shaved with the smell of Pierre Cardin or Old Spice. Mike made sure that Gloria never put gas in her car, that was his job and his attention to detail was like no other. Mike was the best Husband, Father, Brother, Son, and Friend and he touched countless lives he came into contact with. Mike is survived by his wife Gloria Shellaby, sister Frances Russell, sons Thomas Barrows, Stephen Mason, Daughter in-laws Alex Barrows, Gwendolynn Mason, Grand Sons, Thomas Barrows Jr, Tyler Mason, Caleb Mason, Nigel Mason, Isiah Mason, and his beloved dog Mack. Important to note that Mike had a son Michael Mason Jr. that passed in 2020 and it is safe to say that they are sitting together having a cup of coffee as you read this.
It would be simple to say that the world became a worse place when Mike left. Mike would prefer you to say that heaven actually became better. Mike once said that one day when he left, it wouldn't be because he wanted to go, it would be because Heavens Pearly Gates were squeaking and God needed a good Parts Manager up above to help him fix them. This was his famous line.
