Michael J. Muller was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 17, 1945. He graduated Central Catholic High School in 1964 where he was a National Merit Finalist. He attended St. Marys University in San Antonio where he was active in the Shoe String Players and was President of the Delta Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi, a national social fraternity. Michael graduated St. Marys in 1969 with a B.A. in English and was then commissioned as an Army officer.
During the war in Vietnam, he served as District Operations Advisor providing Ambassador Richard Edgar Funkhousers daily briefings to the Commanding General and staff, and briefings for visiting officials such as the Secretary of the Army.
At the University of Texas at Austin, he earned an M.A. in creative writing, and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology. Michael taught psychology, provided career counseling, and worked for nuclear security at a power plant where he provided consultation on terrorism; however, for most of his career he was a Veterans Administration and Vet Center psychologist, counseling traumatized veterans and POWs from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and other conflicts. His well-received 2010 novel, A DREAM OF HEAVEN, is not autobiographical, but it is based on his experiences as an infantry advisor in Vietnam, and as a psychologist working with traumatized veterans.
Michael is survived by his loving daughter, Michelle Marie Muller; his brother, Chad Muller; and two sisters, Katherine Wilton & Marian Zeletz.
