

Michael Young, a devoted family man, adventurous ice road trucker, and car enthusiast, departed this world surrounded by his family on March 7th at the age of 57. Michael's life, marked by love, courage, and a passion for the open road, has left an imprint on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
Born on September 4, 1966 in Lebanon, Oregon, Michael embodied the spirit of his unique surroundings. His love for adventure led him to the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country, forging strong bonds and embodying the principles of duty and honor.
An adventurer at heart, Michael found his calling as an "ice road trucker" in the challenging landscapes of Alaska. Fearlessly navigating frozen terrains for over 20 years, he embraced the thrill of the road, showcasing his skills and determination. His tales of these daring journeys became legendary, reflecting the essence of a man unafraid to tackle life's challenges head-on.
Beyond the icy highways, Michael's true passion lay in his love for classic cars. A skilled mechanic, he devoted countless hours to restoring vintage automobiles, and left a lasting impact on the Alaskan circle track racing community.
Family was Michael's anchor, and he treasured moments spent with his loved ones. His favorite pastime was gathering the family for a leisurely drive, sometimes for hundreds of miles. Whether exploring scenic routes or embarking on road trips, these moments brought immense joy to Michael, and the laughter shared during these rides will forever echo in the memories of his family. His commitment to nurturing strong familial connections extended beyond the road, evident in every smile shared, every laugh echoing through the car, and every adventure embarked upon together, creating lasting bonds and cherished memories during family vacations.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jeannette Young; children, Jason Young and wife Rebekah, Michelle Stephen and husband Kenneth, and Steven Young and wife Diana; grandchildren, Landon and Cash Young, Grace and Sophia Stephen, and Jaden and Hudson Young; fur babies, Pepper and Willow; brothers Jeffrey Robertson and Sean Lucas; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
The family will gather at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 beginning at 8:30 AM. Michael's cherished classic cars will accompany him on his final road trip to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, with the funeral procession set to depart at 9:00 AM.
