Milton Travis Bomar was called to the Lord on December 5th, 2024, joining his loving wife Mary Amelia Bomar and wonderful family and friends. Milton was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing in San Antonio Texas.
Milton was born November 16th, 1940, in Steele, Missouri, U.S.A. and raised in Caruthersville, Missouri, U.S.A., where many of the Bomar family reside. Milton was the youngest child of Mother-Zelma and Father-Earl Bomar, brother to Vernon Bomar and his sister, Viola Bomar.
Milton married the love of his life, Mary Amelia Bomar, on February 3rd, 1962. They shared a love and life together for over 60 years. Mary and Milton are now together for all eternity.
Milton and Mary have three children whom they love dearly and are proud of them for being such devoted parents with strong family values. Daughter Donna Susan Koch and husband Kelvin; oldest son John Vernon Bomar and wife Theresa; and their youngest son, David Earl Bomar and wife Christina. They have seven wonderful grandchildren who brought enormous joy to both Nana and Granddad over the years. Granddaughter Kaeleigh Marie and husband Matthew Minzenmeyer, sister Kandice Koch; Alexandra and husband Brandon Napolitano with brother David M. Bomar; and Cassandra and husband Thomas Anderson with brother Robert Bomar and sister Amanda Macias with husband Ricky Macias. They also have five great grandchildren whom Nana and Granddad adore - Amelia Rose, Henry Jackson, Hudson Reed, Cody Weston Minzenmeyer and Mary Anderson.
Milton was a proud American with a lifetime of military service. He served over 20 years in the United States Air Force as an Operational Leader. He completed tours in Vietnam during conflict and was fortunate to have travelled the world with his family. After retirement, Milton started his second career as a Civil Service Operational Leader and continued his love of country and leadership.
Throughout Milton’s life, he had a passion and love for music, great food (amazing chef) and family gatherings. Milton was an avid golfer, loved the company of good friends, and you could find him either driving long balls on the fairway or celebrating the perfect putt. Milton was a class act and a gentleman in every sense of the word. He brought character and chivalry to every interaction in his life. (“BO” was a 6’7” kind soul and gentle giant with a great sense of humor.).
The devotion and love Milton had for family and country was inspirational and a guiding principle in his character. This was always second to the love and admiration Milton had for his wife Mary.
The Honorable Mary Amelia Bomar, Milton’s wife, was a Former Director of the National Park Service, was nominated by President George W. Bush and Senate confirmed as the 17th Director of the National Park Service in August 2005. Milton was her biggest supporter and together they elevated themselves to the challenge of impacting over four hundred national parks.
Milton and Mary were both devout Catholics and proud to be members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. They both praised Monsignor Conor McGraff for his devotion to his religion, church, congregation and community.
Milton was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Zelma and Earl Bomar; brother and sister, Vernon Bomar and Viola Thacker; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Sandra Burns; and sister-in-law, Moira Burns.
