

Milton Schiller, 90, departed this life on Monday, February 18, 2008. He was born March 13, 1917 in Yoakum, Texas to Earl Schiller and Irene Eichler Schiller. He lived in San Antonio since the family moved to San Antonio when he was a child. He graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended San Antonio College. Mr. Schiller married Ailsa Thomson on February 1, 1941, 67 years ago. Within a few weeks he was drafted into the Army, and served as a 1st Lieutenant in an anti-aircraft unit in Northern Africa, Sicily, and Anzio Beachead during World War II; he later transferred to an Infantry unit. In the early 1950s he began working for the Perry Shankle Company, working in several positions before a 30+ year position in sales for the electrical division of the Perry Shankle Company until his retirement in 1985 after 30+ years. His work covered a large Texas territory comprising many rural electrical co-operatives. Mr. Schiller was an avid golfer and a member of the Cosmopolitan Golf Association, serving in several administrative capacities, and the 55 Plus Golf group. He was a long-time member and trustee of Jefferson United Methodist Church, and a past worshipful Master of the Bluebonnet Masonic Lodge 1989-90, where he and his father were members. He is survived by his wife, Ailsa Schiller; daughter, Diana L. Schiller of San Antonio; son, Thomas R. Schiller of Cottage Grove, Oregon; daughter, Penelope J. Thorpe and her husband, Steve of Ashland, Oregon; sister, Dorothy I. Joseph and her husband, Arthur X; grandson, Joshua Thorpe; granddaughter, Sarah Thorpe; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Earl E. Schiller. The family extends sincere thanks to the Arbors staff of Homewood Residence in Castle Hills and to the staff of the VITAS Hospice for their kindness to Mr. Schiller while in their care.
