Monika Jean (Lewis) Menczer, a cherished wife, beloved family member, and adventurous soul, passed away on June 17, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 74. Born on August 3, 1949, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Monika's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, creativity, and a spirit of generosity.
Monika was the embodiment of a faith-filled life, always seeking adventure and extending generosity to all she encountered. She was born to parents William Johnson and Clara Koepsel and was lovingly welcomed by her grandparents George and Viola Lewis. Her early years in Santa Fe were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, which expanded to include her husband of 54 years, Kirk M. Menczer, whom she met during her studies at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.
Monika's creative talents shone brightly during her years as a display manager for Rhodes/Dillard's Department Store. Her passion for creativity led her to co-found Balloon Expressions with her business partner Ann, where she crafted joy for others from 1981 to 1987. After a European sojourn, she returned to the States, dedicating herself to philanthropy, particularly as a master gardener at the Botanical Gardens.
Monika's zest for life was contagious, and she was affectionately known as the world's jet setter. She traversed the globe, embracing cultures and experiences that many only dream of. Her ski trips with her ski club were legendary, as were her annual Halloween parties. Monika also found joy in simpler pleasures such as craft shows, movies, concerts, shopping, and she loved the color purple.
A lover of all animals, especially cats, Monika's compassionate heart was as expansive as her love for her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Kirk M. Menczer; brother, William Johnson; sister, Michelle Luna; brother-in-Law, Stephen E. Menczer; her three nephews: Stephen J. Menczer, his wife Laura and their children Grant and Peyton, Christopher Menczer, his wife, Shelby, and their children Mia, Travis, and Owen, Edward Luna, his wife Johnelle and their children Benjamin and Rory; her three nieces: Holly Marugg, her husband John, their children Adela and Andy, Krystle Barton, her husband Richard and their children Emma and Ella, Denise Weyrens, her husband Andy and their children Paisley and Brynleigh; alongside numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
Monika was preceded in death by her grandparents, George & Viola Lewis; parents, William Johnson and Clara Koepsel; in-laws, Sam and Rita Menczer; sisters-in-law, Sandy Menczer, Mary Johnson and brother Michael King. Her legacy of love and the memories she created will forever be treasured by those who were fortunate to know her.
In her life, Monika approached every day fearless in her pursuits and steadfast in her faith. Monika's adventurous spirit, her generous heart, and her unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on her family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Monika Jean (Lewis) Menczer, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a journey that was both faith-filled and adventurous, and a woman whose generosity knew no bounds. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her loved ones for generations to come. Monika's legacy is a reminder to us all to live with courage, love deeply, and embrace the adventures that life presents.
