

Nancy Giles Loomis, age 63, passed away on Sunday, October 27 of a sudden illness. She was born Nancy Mason Giles on October 28, 1949 in Seguin, Texas to Mary Flora and Ralph Giles. She graduated from Seguin High School, where she worked on the student newspaper and played the flute in the Fighting Matador band. Her classmates voted her the most witty member of the Class of 1968.
Nancy attended Trinity University, graduating in 1971 with a B.A. in education. She later earned her Master's Degree from Trinity. In 1971, she began teaching English at Breckenridge High School in San Antonio but left in 1977 to become a full-time mother. Later, Nancy worked at Talbots where she ranked among the company's top salespeople nationally and enjoyed friendships with many customers.
Nancy's first passion was her children, Meg and Grant, but after retiring from work, she enjoyed gardening, hunting for antiques, reading, baking, listening to her parents' generation's love songs, and most recently spoiling her first grandchild, Ruby.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 39 years, Laird Loomis, son Laird Grant Loomis, daughter Mary Margaret Loomis, son-in-law Frank Desroches, granddaughter Ruby Desroches, sister Carolyn Thornton and brother-in-law Dr. William Thornton; sister-in-law Ann Burns; niece Kate Godici, husband Tom Godici, and great nieces Mason and Parker Godici: nephew Ted Thornton, wife Jere Orlandi, and their daughter Roxy.
The memorial service will be a small family service on Thursday, October 31.
Anyone wishing to remember Nancy is encouraged to give to the Children's Bereavement Center or Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. in San Antonio.
