Natalia Carranza Salas, born December 1, 1923 in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Natalia Carranza became the first of three girls and the second oldest of four children to Victoria Mendoza and Ignacio Carranza. From a young age, Natalia was a loving and spirited individual. In her childhood, she would learn about loss on various levels. She endured her parents divorce and the loss of a brother. By the age of 20, she was on her way to making a life of her own with her new husband, Longino Salas. Shortly after the birth of their son, Reyes Victor in 1943, they decided to seek opportunities in the United States. This included various stays in Racine, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, towns in California and Deer Park, Texas (just outside of Houston). They finally made their permanent residence in San Antonio in 1984 and in 1997, she lost her husband of over 50 years after a series of illnesses. Natalia's heart guided her to continue raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she fought and won her personal battle with breast cancer. Even at the age of 90, Natalia attempted to be there for her family in every way possible. Her lifetime is filled with memories of family and helping those in need and most of all a love for God that has touched us all. On Friday, October 3, 2014, Natalia was called home after a brief battle with end-stage liver cancer. Her last wish was to have her family come together once again. She leaves behind her son Reyes Victor Salas (Gloria), daughter Norma Gonzales (Louis), grandsons Reyes Salas Jr. (Cindy), Oscar Salas (Nicole), Stephen Salas (Lesley), Louis Gonzales Jr., grand-daughter Thalia Gonzales, great-grandchildren Gregory Salas, Meredith Salas, Izabella Salas, Alejandra Salas, Xochitl Salas, and Gabriela Salas. She also leaves behind a sister, Margarita Carranza and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly but never forgotten. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd.
