Nell Minor passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021. She was born on July 5, 1930 in Boerne, Texas, and was to celebrate her 91st birthday within a few days of her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Harold Minor, and by her daughters, Gaylen Rogers and Marilyn Graves. She is survived by her children Jhane Wilson Ivers, Ray Wilson, Carol Wilson, and Elaine Wilson-Blain. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and by 10 great grandchildren.
Nell was proudest of her family. She was instrumental in the origin of the annual Minor Reunion first held in the mid-1960’s that continues even today. She worked hours on end to organize food, bake-off contests, fund-raising auctions, horse-shoe pitching, dominoes, and other games and activities so that all would have a great time. As soon as one reunion was completed, she was busy working on the next one. She also worked with her sisters to host an annual Thanksgiving Day feast with all the trimmings. Her potato salad and beans were always favorites! When asked what she was proudest of, she replied, “My kids. I have good kids.” In return, her kids are proud of her.
Nell had many interests, and she stayed busy. She was the founder of a Bunco Club over forty years ago that still meets monthly. She was an excellent bowler and played on several leagues where she met many life-long friends. She taught others to play dominoes and frequently challenged her friends to a game of 42. She gained employment while still raising her children and worked her way up from checking groceries to managing stores. Her final formal employment was as an auditor for an entire grocery chain. She worked informally to the end assisting her children with various jobs, for example, setting up display medals for Fiesta San Antonio. She worked daily crosswords and word searches. She was most always doing something or working on a project.
The most outstanding trait of Nell Minor was her optimism and her “can do” attitude. She picked others up when they were down. She saw challenges as opportunities and inspired her children to excel. She never failed to help her family and friends with most anything they needed. She was known for her kindness and generous gift-giving. She usually did not let you leave her house without a present.
Nell’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 1st, at 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Park’s Home Chapel. Her family would like to thank you for your kind words of support.
