Rick was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 10, 1942 to Newton M. Richard, Jr. and Melville Rogers. He received a BS (Cum Laude) in Finance/Economics from University of Tampa and a MS in Business Administration from American University. Rick retired from the US Army after a distinguished career as a highly-decorated Combat Pilot in Vietnam, Flight Commander and Instructor Pilot, Flight Operations Airfield Commander, Finance Company Commander, and other US Army command-level positions. He was shot down twice in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and 23 Air Medals.
After his military retirement, Rick pursued a career as a financial advisor, founding the Alamo Stock Index and doing radio/TV economic commentary.
Rick was proud of his "Cajun" roots and he had a tremendous zest for life. He loved skiing, wind surfing, golf, racquetball, football, music, and most of all, his family. He was a fierce competitor, and always strived to be the best at everything in his life. He was always up for a good time and could carry on an interesting conversation with just about anyone.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his 3 children: T.J. (Tracy John) Richard and wife Shannon, Jason Schwegler, Bridget Boyden and husband Michael; his 5 grandchildren: Madeline, Isabelle, and Lily Richard, Aidan and Jack Boyden; his sister Ronnie Harper-Schwakhofer and her husband Chuck Schwakhofer; Ronnie's 2 children: Lauren Harper, Todd Harper, wife Jessica and their son Julian; a large and loving extended family and his dear and loyal friends.
He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He left a legacy of love and an uncompromising zest for life that will be cherished by all who knew him. We will all miss him.
