Noah John Westerfield, age 43 of Seguin, Texas, passed from this life on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The grief of his family and friends is profound, tempered only by the tremendous blessing that he was to all who knew him. To know Noah was to love him, for he spread his joy to all he met. He is greatly missed.
Noah was born June 17, 1980, in Aberdeen, WA to his loving parents J.R. and Rhonda Westerfield. They, along with younger brother Adam, lived in the Pacific Northwest just long enough to develop a love for cooler weather and the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners. A move to Texas followed in elementary school, with Noah spending his youth in the communities of Seguin, Nordheim, and Moulton. He attended high school in Gonzales. He was active in theatre and band, acting onstage and playing the tenor saxophone, while balancing an appreciation for the sciences. Upon his graduation in 1998, he chose to attend TLU in Seguin, where he began his studies as a pre-med major. However, his gifts in communication, storytelling, and relationship building called him to explore other paths. He graduated in 2002 with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Theatre.
While at TLU, Noah was an active member of the campus community. He continued his love for the arts, performing in numerous theatre productions and singing in the choir. It was there that he met his wife, Heather. They began dating after graduation and were married on March 12th, 2005. Noah was also active in Greek life, as part of the Sigma Phi Theta fraternity. He served as President of the Thetas from 2001-2002. In all these experiences, Noah became a beloved member, friend, and collaborator.
Upon graduating from TLU, Noah applied his communication skills, becoming a familiar presence in local media at KGNB radio in New Braunfels. His unique ability to create relationships, while making one feel like they were life-long friends was an asset for his work in the media. Over time, however, his attentions shifted back to school—and specifically to special education. A career change was interrupted by the COVID pandemic, but he had found a passion for teaching at the Advanced Learning Academy in San Antonio. His love of people created an immediate positive impact on those who met him.
Away from work, Noah lived a life of joy and service to those he encountered. He was passionate about traveling, camping, and scouting, spending much time with Heather at Mitre Peak Girl Scout Camp. His love of the great outdoors was matched only by his fondness for gatherings with friends. He was always up for a round of Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, or other games. He was an avid fan of Lego and Star Wars. He found delight in his pets, while also making time to serve others in need, volunteering at the Christian Cupboard. Though he knew that the world could be a brutal place, he did everything in his power to radiate positive energy, making us all better in the process.
Noah is survived by his wife Heather, his mother Rhonda Westerfield, his brother Adam (and wife Sarah) Westerfield, his nephews Owyn and Theo Westerfield, and nieces Mary Ranft, Samantha Cerda, and Aiko Cerda. He was preceded in death by his father J.R. and his brother Micah.
A memorial of Noah’s life will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 3:00 PM, Woodlawn Pointe in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the following organizations in his memory: San Antonio Animal Care Services, Kinetic Kids, Camp Mitre Peak, and Stand Up to Cancer.
