I was born September 3, 1926, and died October 27, 2022. Was raised around my very dear two brothers, Jim and Peter, by our mother, who dedicated herself – for better or worse – to the three of us and our friends. Jim died of congestive heart failure twenty years ago. His survivors are his wife, Jean; his two sons, Allan and Glover; and their wives, Kathy and Judy. Peter died February 15, 2022. My other survivors are the three sons of Peter and his late wife, Nina: Pete, Ray, and Jim; and their wives, Carol, Amber, and Katie; and now we have a third generation, Jim and Katie’s Logan, and Ray and Amber’s Cheyenne.
My favorite job was working for 14 years and 9 months at the dime store, and working as an assistant teacher in a Montessori school. My favorite music? Nearly anything written/played in the 1940s. My favorite colors were blue and all shades of purple. My favorite view: the daytime sky of bright blue with puffy white clouds. My favorite poem starts: “Flower in the crannied well.....” Guess my favorite pastimes were cutting, pasting, painting. And my favorite memories were of those experiences in the late 1920s and early 1930s, as a preschooler on our Iowa farm with my two brothers and my mother. Always being a poor communicator, I had few friends, but they were essential to my well-being. I was fortunate to have been healthy for so many years. I lost a lot of time for a couple of years, having depressions resulting in electric shock treatment. And the COPD starting in 1980 was not much fun. Still, I had good health and good moods for most of my 96 years, Thanks be. And my favorite prayer, I guess maybe it was that short, simple, sweet, “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If ----------.”
