Oakland DeCosta “Morrie” Morrison, 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was born in Laurel Hill, FL, on August 22, 1939, to the late Hugh Daniel Morrison and Lois Gertrude Morrison. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted member of Village Parkway Baptist Church.
Morrie grew up in Florida, graduating from Bay County High School in Panama City, FL, in 1957. He joined the Air Force soon after, serving in many locations around the world to include a tour in Vietnam. Morrie served over 26 years, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, and retired in San Antonio in 1985. He devoted many years to the former Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, especially the Department of Pharmacy, as both an active-duty military member and as an Air Force civilian. In retirement, Morrie enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with friends and family, watching sports, especially when the Texas Rangers were winning, and going dancing. He read voraciously and enjoyed singing with the senior choir at Village Parkway. In recent years, he also cherished the opportunity to watch his grandkids grow and relished his role as Great Morrie to Barbara’s many great-grandchildren.
Morrie is survived by his loving and caring wife, Barbara Morrison; his son, Scott and his wife Angie; his grandchildren Paisley, Anders, and Gideon; and his brother, Huey; as well as many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his previous wife and Scott’s mother, Mary Morrison; his brothers, Austin Dewitt Morrison and Gerald Morrison; and his sister, Frances Soper.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 2, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 AM at Porter Loring Mortuary West, transitioning to a chapel service starting at 11:00 AM led by Pastor Ryan Carpenter of Village Parkway Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston at 1:00 P.M. with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
