

Audon (Odon) Sanchez Cardenas, 105, was called to be with Our Lord on Friday, January 31, 2025. He was born on July 30, 1919, in Devine, Texas, where he spent his early years before going on to serve his country with honor.
Odon proudly enlisted in the US Army during World War II, where he faced one of the most harrowing experiences of his life. Captured by the Germans, he was taken as a prisoner of war, enduring unimaginable hardships. His resilience and fortitude during this difficult time were a true testament to his unwavering strength of character. After being liberated, Odon carried the scars of his experiences, but also a deep sense of gratitude for his life and an unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community.
Following his release from captivity, and release from the Army, Odon pursued a life filled with passion and dedication to his interests. He was a long time barber at Lackland AFB, TX and had a love for auto mechanics completing a certificate in Auto Mechanics, often spending hours working on the family cars, and enjoyed staying informed about current events, always with a keen interest in military history. He would often engage in deep conversations about the past, sharing stories of his experiences and the lessons he learned during his time in the military.
Above all, Odon’s greatest love was for the Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through challenges and joys alike. He found strength and peace in his spiritual beliefs, and he was a devoted member of his community, always supporting the Church in any way he could. He was a long time usher at San Martin de Porres.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Inez Cardenas, his parents Donaciano and Cecilia Cardenas, his sister Damiana, brothers Dionicio, Erasmo, Guadalupe, Ernesto, and children, Richard V. Cardenas( Daughter, Cindy), Frank Martinez, Juan Cardenas, Victoria Cardenas Villanueva (& sons Edward & Frankie) and grandson, Steven Longoria.
Those left behind to cherish Odon's memory are his sister Sophia Sauceda; children, Cecilia C Gutierrez, Rachel C Luna, Arthur V. Cardenas (wife Lydia), Raul V. Cardenas (wife Doris), Dolores Kotilaidze (husband Demna), MaryAnn Ayala (husband Daniel); sister-in-law, Dolores Cardenas; and 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
There will be a Visitation, Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 5:00p.m. - 10:00p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd., 78237. On Friday, February 21, 2025 our doors will open at 8:30a.m., we will then go in procession for a 10:00a.m. Mass at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 1730 Dahlgreen Ave, San Antonio, TX 78237, followed by Burial at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237
