Olga was born on March 8, 1942, to Manuel and Guadalupe G. Dominguez. Soon after graduating from Fox Tech in 1961, she entered the workforce working in the banking and data processing industries. With strong work ethic and determination, Olga quickly climbed the ladder to hold an executive position at Alamo National Bank and then later at EDS (MTECH). During her time at Alamo National Bank, the company sponsored women’s softball team became Olga’s favorite pastime. Several years later, a split at the bank led her to her new job at EDS. One of Olga’s first tasks was to recruit new hires, and she knew just the place to find them. She recruited many of the softball players to become members of her EDS team. With her existing love for the game of softball and a skill packed team, Olga managed her own team, the Changes. Olga was proud to manage the best women’s softball team in San Antonio, at the time, and even more proud to take the team to Nationals twice in the 70’s. In early 2000, she retired only to find herself managing and running a local small business, AC Express Couriers, alongside her life-long friend, Tony Cortez and her son, Michael. She took pride in her excellent customer service and established many friendships with their clients.
In 2008, Olga was diagnosed with breast cancer and battled gracefully becoming a breast cancer warrior. She knew her faith would carry her through the days of treatment. Olga was a devout Catholic and dedicated time weekly to attend adoration at St. Peter Prince of The Apostles Catholic Church. Olga believed her life belonged to the Lord and when she spoke of her faith, you could not get her to stop. She was a guardian to all and prayed for many. Never without a religious candle lit or white carnations on her beloved altar for those she prayed for.
Olga was known for many things: being a motherly figure to many, a person to go-to for advice, a shoulder to cry on, and the place to go to for help. Her most important accolade was raising her two sons, Michael and Joe. She was passionate about being a grandmother and believed in the philosophy “It Takes a Village.” Olga never passed up an opportunity to eat something sweet and especially enjoyed the holiday seasons. She enjoyed her family getting together to share a holiday meal and most of all enjoyed “taste testing” the homemade desserts. She looked forward to family baking get togethers. Olga enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance. She found interest in collecting CD’s and watching music videos on YouTube. Olga never turned down an outing to her favorite restaurants: Good Time Charlies, Hung Fong, Jim’s and mostly the Little Red Barn.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Ofelia Dominguez and brother, Manual A. Dominguez. She is survived by her children, Michael A. Dominguez (wife Rachel Christine) and Joseph Raymond (Joe Raymond) Dominguez (wife Christine); grandchildren, Brynn Renee and Easton Joseph; chosen granddaughters, Celine Nicole and Caitlin LeAnn Cortez; siblings, Leo Laborde (wife Gloria), Oralia ‘Dee’ Siers (husband Jerry), and Andrew J. Dominguez (wife Terrie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Olga will be forever missed. Though she is gone from sight, she will be forever carried in our hearts. Her legacy as the family matriarch will continue to flourish, and she will be remembered as a strong, feisty and loving woman.
