Ophelia R. Chula Marple, age 90, passed away quietly July 10, 2002. Chula, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was born in San Luis Potosí, S.L.P., México on April 9, 1912 and came to San Antonio at the age of 9. She was a partner with her son in Graphic Arts Printing Co., founded in 1928 on Cameron Street in downtown San Antonio, but currently on Cherry Street. Golfing was Chula's great delight. She was a longtime member of the San Antonio Women's Golf Assn. In later years, she was a member of Canyon Creek Country Club, which later became part of The Club at Sonterra, having many trophies from both clubs. In addition, Chula did volunteer work at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital for many years. She is survived by her husband, Col. Ret. Richard F. Marple; four daughters, Ophelia Parsons, Anna Verstegen and her husband John, Evangeline Hillner, all residing in San Antonio, and Lupe Gonzalez and her husband, Richard Gonzalez of Bryn Mawr, PA; and her son, Roland Ramirez, now residing in Acapulco, México. She is blessed by 20 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
