It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Oralia “Vicky” Gonzales, who left this world peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born January 18, 1934 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Bernardo and Maria del Refugia Maldonado, Vicky's vibrant spirit, warm heart, and enduring strength touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a devoted mother to her four children: Norma Gonzales Blohm (Bitzy), Henry I. Gonzales Jr., Sandra Gonzales, and Edward Gonzales, who will forever cherish the love, guidance, and wisdom she imparted throughout their lives.
Her legacy continues to shine through her grandchildren: Ariel, Ethan, Beckett, and Ava Oralia, who adored their grandmother, and her great-grandchildren: Maky and Luca, who brought her endless joy.
Vicky is also survived by her siblings, Mario Maldonado, Roberto “DD” Maldonado (Maria), and Adelina “Nina” Roman, along with their children and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who share in the love and grief of her passing.
Heartfelt thanks to her cousins, Anna and Marvin Davis and Minerva Carroll for their devotion and support on a daily basis; to her niece Bianca Maldonado for surprise visits bearing food and flowers; to her many friends and neighbors, especially Paul, Deborah and Victoria for their love and home-cooked meals, to Kimberly Blohm for her tender loving care, and to her beloved Son-in-law Bitzy Blohm who, for many years, tended to her every need as if she was his own Mother. Special thanks to Fr. Richard Hall, OMI, for his spiritual guidance and loving kindness for which we are forever grateful.
In addition to raising her children, Vicky’s professional career was rooted in the educational system. She taught special needs elementary children, worked for the University of Texas at Austin in various support roles, was an Assistant to the Athletic Director in the developmental years at UTSA, and retired from the UT Health Science Center, where she assisted students in navigating the financial needs of medical school.
A woman of grace, compassion, and unwavering faith, Vicky will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, generosity, and the importance of family, which will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life.
